Social and Economic Baseline - Sepakat Jaya Village

April 2025

Sepakat Jaya Village is administratively located in Nanga Tayap Subdistrict, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan Province, as established under Ketapang Regent Regulation No. 12 of 2009 concerning the formation of villages within Ketapang Regency. This regulation outlines the establishment of Sepakat Jaya Village as a derivative (expansion) village from Nanga Tayap Village. Sepakat Jaya Village consists of two hamlets, namely Sungai Beliung Hamlet and Engkadin Hamlet, with a total area of 84 km². The village is accessible via the Trans-Kalimantan highway, with a travel time of approximately 4 hours (about 91 km) by land from Ketapang Airport, or 7–9 hours (390 km) from Pontianak via the same route.

As of 2024, the population of Sepakat Jaya Village is 2,001 people, comprising 908 females and 1,093 males, across 496 households. There are two majority ethnic groups in the village: the Melayu Kayong ethnic group and the Dayak Kayong (Dayak Engkadin) ethnic group.

In 2024, community well-being levels were measured using the Participatory Well-being Assessment (PWA) method through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The results show that well-being in Sepakat Jaya Village is categorized into three groups, such as 10–12% are recipients of Cash Social Assistance (BLT), indicating the poor (vulnerable) group, 73% are in the middle-income group, and 7 households (2%) are considered wealthy.

In general, the residents of Sepakat Jaya Village work as farmers, oil palm plantation workers, livestock keepers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and government or private employees. This reflects a diverse local economy, with 90% of the community employed by oil palm companies. Most women in the village work as farmers and gardeners, but their involvement in village-level decision-making and traditional activities remains limited. However, women are more active in community activities such as PKK (Family Welfare Program), religious study groups (majelis taklim), integrated health posts (posyandu), and local social initiatives. The vulnerable population is divided into two categories: elderly individuals with specific conditions and people with disabilities, totaling 53 households.

The forests surrounding Sepakat Jaya Village play a vital role in the community's life, serving as a source of livelihood, water, sacred sites, food, medicine, and farming areas. As a village located near a protected forest, the community—through the Lemmanis Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD Lemmanis)—actively works to conserve the forest. LPHD Lemmanis was established in 2021 to manage the Village Forest (Hutan Desa) covering approximately 6,967 hectares. Management of the Lemmanis Village Forest by LPHD is supported by CFES through the RaCP program.
