Biodiversity Offset

Compensation mechanisms for the loss of biodiversity due to development activities. The principle is to avoid negative impacts on biodiversity from the outset (avoid), minimize unavoidable impacts (minimize), restore degraded habitats (rehabilitate), and as a last resort, provide compensation elsewhere (offset). The goal is to achieve “no net loss” or even “net gain” for biodiversity.

Basic Principle

CFES helps companies address the negative impacts of development projects on biodiversity. CFES assists companies in identifying impacts, planning offset strategies (such as habitat restoration or species relocation), implementing field programs, and monitoring their effectiveness so that development can proceed in harmony with environmental conservation.

RaCP

The Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP) is a procedure established by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to address the negative impacts of oil palm plantation development that does not comply with RSPO principles and criteria, particularly those related to High Conservation Value (HCV) areas. This procedure requires companies to carry out remediation by restoring affected areas and providing compensation for the loss of conservation value. RaCP aims to encourage companies to take responsibility for the environmental impacts of their operations, protect biodiversity, and ensure sustainable practices.

Basic Principle

CFES assists companies in fulfilling their RaCP obligations by calculating compensation liabilities, developing effective and transparent compensation plans, and distributing funds to the appropriate beneficiaries, such as forest management institutions. CFES also conducts monitoring and evaluation to ensure that compensation programs are running according to their objectives and have a positive impact on the environment and communities.

Carbon Credit

Carbon trading, also known as carbon emissions trading, regulates and reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to climate change. The main idea of carbon trading is to encourage companies and other parties to reduce their emissions efficiently, while offering flexibility in meeting emission targets set by the government or other authorities.

Program Principles

This practice aims to achieve carbon neutrality, which is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as much as possible and achieve balance by eliminating or reducing remaining emissions through sustainable projects.

PES

A mechanism designed to provide financial incentives to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in recognition of their success in implementing environmental conservation measures. These incentives are awarded for success in preventing deforestation and forest degradation, or for success in rehabilitating damaged forests and land. Payments will be made based on reports submitted by IPLCs each time they successfully meet the agreed-upon PES requirements, thereby creating a direct link between conservation outcomes and the economic benefits received by the community.

Basic Principle

CFES focuses on performance with incentives based on quantitative and qualitative Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This program ensures fair and transparent benefit-sharing among various local groups such as LPHD/A, village governments, women’s groups, and indigenous groups, in order to enhance ownership and participation. PES funds are also used for community empowerment through patrols, rehabilitation, and support for business groups, backed by CFES mentoring to improve forest management skills.
