Identification of Non-Timber Forest Products – Laman Satong Village

Manjau Village Forest area, located in Laman Satong Village, Matan Hilir Utara Subdistrict, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, is divided into a conservation zone of 654 hectares and a utilization zone of 416 hectares. The identification of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in Dusun Manjau, Laman Satong Village, includes sugar palm (Arenga pinnata), agarwood (Aquilaria sp.), bamboo, fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants.

The population of aren trees in Manjau Hamlet, Laman Satong Village, is 243 individuals located in 4 locations, namely Kubing Hill, Manjau Village, Kubang Hill, and Kedirun Hill. The distribution of aren growth in Manjau Hamlet, Laman Satong Village, is at an altitude of 25-150 meters above sea level. The total productivity of the 243 palm trees consists of 105 productive trees, 12 unproductive trees, and 126 trees that are not yet productive.

The population of agarwood trees (Aquilaria sp.) in Manjau Hamlet, Laman Satong Village, is 3,100 trees, which generally grow on residents' plantation land. The large number of people who illegally harvest agarwood, causing it to become extinct and rare, has led the community to propagate agarwood seedlings which are then planted on plantations. The use of agarwood by the community of Manjau Hamlet, Laman Satong Village is intended for religious rituals, relieving stomach aches, increasing stamina, and as a source of income for the community.
The identification and percentage of bamboo species in Manjau Hamlet, Laman Satong Village consist of 20% Muntik bamboo (Schizostachyum sp.), 20% Pering/Abe bamboo (Gigantochloa balui), 10% Betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper), Buluh Lemang/Talang bamboo (Schizostachyum brachycladum) 10%, Temiang/Awi bamboo (Schizostachyum iraten) 5%, piansak 20%, Aur/Ampel bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) 10%, Toring/Ater (Gigantochloa atter) 5%.

Seasonal fruits commonly found in the Manjau Village Forest include durian, pekawai, mentawak, kelampai, rambutan, langsat, kapol, limat, belimbing darah, and mango. Vegetables include ferns, bamboo shoots, rattan shoots, mushrooms, jengkol, and kecombrang flowers.
